When we first heard about David Dhawan’s intentions of remaking the 1981 classic Chashme Buddoor, we winced. And then our ever-optimistic hearts hoped that perhaps Davidji could make it work. But now we catch a glimpse of this new still and wince…again.
Chashme Buddoor of the 80s could be connected with simple attire, innocent emotions and Miss Chamko. But what’s this? Looking at Ali Zafar wearing a checked suit, a scarf and a topi alongside Tapsee Pannu dressed in a wannabe-Bohemian outfit in no way reminded us of the original. Yes, the style is old world, but no, it’s not Chashme Buddoor.
Maybe we are being unfair by expecting the classic to be remade to perfection. But if that’s not gonna happen, please let’s not call it a ‘remake’.
