Alzheimer’s Disease Awareness month

Did you know that November is the national Alzheimer’s Disease Awareness Month in the United States? You should keep it in mind because Alzheimer’s Disease, whether you’re young or old, directly or indirectly is going to influence us all in one way or another. Considering there’s currently 5 million people living with the disease in the United States and more than 30 million around the globe and, unless something is done about it, the numbers are expected to double every 20 years.

Alzheimer’s occurs mainly in case of people over 65, but it can also happen sooner. The exact cause of the disease is still unknown, but at this point it’s irreversible brain disease that can only get worse over the years. Alzheimer’s disease slowly destroys the patient’s thinking and memory skills and in worst cases, upon reaching its most sever stage, it can actually make us totally dependent on others for the most basic daily activities.

Companies around the world try to support the research of Alzheimer’s and one of those companies is Brookdale, who has a long time commitment to supporting the research of the disease.

“Throughout the year, Brookdale associates, residents and their families participate in fundraising efforts to support the Walk to End Alzheimer’s program through the Alzheimer’s Association, an organization with the mission of eliminating Alzheimer’s, advancing research, and enhancing care and support for those affected by this devastating disease,” said Sara Terry, vice president of Customer Experience for Brookdale and Brookdale’s National Team Coordinator for the Alzheimer’s Association.
